On June 5, 1991 la fiesta mayor was declared as a traditional festival, because Sitges has been able to keep this festival as one of the most important shows which reflects their cultural identity.
During the holidays there are several celebrations that include the aspect of religion and secular. Note that among the celebrations there are several popular dances and other activities which create an extensive itinerary.
The party is definitely a great tourist attraction as it involves a lot of history. Sitges is also one of the few towns in Catalonia that today celebrates religious processions in memory of the festival.
On August 23 in the evening, the fireworks display lights up, because this show is one of the most anticipated during the Sitges festival. Before starting the most expected fireworks show, some popular dances will take place - the concerts are also expected to complete the festival.
Calendar of Events by day:
August 21: Blaumut and Els Catarres concerts start at 21:00 PM, which will be held in the gardens of Sociedad Recreativa el Retiro (recreation societythe retirement). The entrance fee is 10 euros and they are already for sale at El Retiro, in El Cable Bar, Janio’s Barand and Ateneu Popular. On the same day of the concert tickets can be purchased at 15 €.
August 22: A recital of poems will take place in the parish of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla, where there will be a premiere of a poem by Magda Altabella.
August 23: This day is the most anticipated, because it has a lot of events. Among the most important are the play ones in tribute to the founders of the festival.
Sardana at 14h, Fireworks performance at 18h
Other important events are folk dances and snacks, along with musicians who will collect the tabernacle of Sant Bartomeu in the house of the person who carries the pennon of the Festival 2013.
The most expected show are the fireworks which start at 11 pm, seats for the viewers will be enabled to have a great view and the entrance fee will be 5 euros and you may try wine .
August 24: On this day, the most important event will be the procession at the entrance of the parochial church of Sant Bartomeu. In addition there will be more fireworks and bells will play during the entry.
August 25: Vermouth de Sant Lli at 12.30H in the Hort Can Falç. Show of fireworks at 18:30 at la Placa de l'Ajuntament. Closing verbena sardanista at 22.15h.
